Going With It

A good long time ago, I read a book called "Timing Is Everything," the basic premise of which was that there are seasons which are internal to people, during which they have to focus on different things. These seasons correspond substantively to the earth's seasons - a season for planting, a season for growing, a season for reaping and a dormant season. I don't think it plays out that nicely or neatly for me, but there are definitely periods of time during which I am more intellectually active and others in which looking at the Sunday comics is mentally taxing. Generally, when I am in one of my busy phases, a lot of things will be going along pretty well. The dormant phases sometimes scare me with their barrenness. The active phases tend to be a whole lot more enjoyable, and if I do it right, I can keep them going for quite a long time.

An active phase started just about the time my physical life became completely dormant. Having no option but to lie there and surf the inner recesses of your mind is kind of a neat thing. A high price to pay, but neat. Freed from the minute to minute of "this guy said he'd be here and he isn't, why hasn't that material shown up yet, this drawing isn't coordinated with that one, why the hell is the transportation inspector here now" minutia of my average day, I was able to go down some branches in the tree of my mind that hadn't seen sunlight in a while.

One of those branches offered an idea for what I thought was a really cool contest and promotional idea rolled together. It was one of those concepts that, once begun, just kept adding new and interesting components to itself. Nothing earth shattering, but something I think a lot of people would have a lot of fun doing and worthwhile for the corporate partner. The sticking point is that there is one and only one corporate partner which can make this thing work, and getting through to the appropriate person wasn't happening. Finally, I got an initial response to some inroads I'd made, and my proposal is in for consideration. They could steal it (although I'm really not looking for a lot out of it personally), they could ignore it, they could ruin it or they could roll with it. In any case, I've gotten on base with the concept proposal that I needed to get out there, which is really cool. At this point, if they go with it, great.

Sometimes it's just nice to have some of the flotsam that rolls around in your head turn into a raft worth paddling.

I officially have tragically inflexible hips, which are causing issues with my recovery. If I don't deal with it, my knee will almost certainly have long term consequences. Dealing with it will definitely help my position and ability to transmit power on the bike, too, so off I go to deal with it.

Current events are too much even to comment on. NPR's Marketplace show is available as a Podcast on iTunes, and plays on 88.5 every day at 6. It's an interesting show which does a really good job with things. Also, Bloomberg on the Economy is a Podcast worth hearing.

Dude, that's awesome. Glad it's moving forward. Keep me posted, and count me in on the promotional side.
