Nice header picture. I assume that they punched each other out about 30 seconds after that was taken and their friend, Bob Sram, came by and drank their beers while they were distracted.

BTW, you can thank the Tour de Toona for that stacked masters field. We didn't want to take away from their 1-2-3 field, figuring promoters always scramble for riders, so we tried to reward the workingman racers with separate women's 3/4 prize lists (1 registrant so far... awesome) and a M 4/5 35+ which is just as popular as the 4 and 5 class. Then the Tour de Toona folded, after we'd set things up, and we were left with a bunch of 1-2 racers slipping into the 35+.

Don't worry about it though. The cool thing about the Giro course is that if you get dropped, you can just ride the course for another 2 hours and treat it like a hill repeats workout.

I took the header pic like 2 years ago at CSC Crit, when this was the perfect distillation of the either/or majesty of gruppo choices. It would be so much cooler if one of them had decided on a Pepsi but what can you do?

I actually chose to do this to myself AFTER the whole Toona business, knowing full well what I was in for. If I can do anything to help the other NCVC guys who actually have half a shot at staying with the race, it will be a fun day. It might be a very SHORT day..

Why don't you race the Masters 35+ 4/5 field? You're still a 4 aren't you? I'm assuming you are over 35 since you are registered for the Masters 35+ field. Is the Masters 35+ 4/5 race full now?

Who knows when I'll get the chance to get my shit pushed in that hard again, right? Hopefully I'll have a chance to be of some use to some really excellent guys on my team. I asked them if it was a stupid thing to try and they said hell go for it.

Is this the first 35+ race you will have done? I did Crystal City and Turkey Day in 2007 and they were both awesome. I hurt pretty good in both, never got dropped, and even managed an 8th place at Turkey Day. It is completely different than a Cat 4 race. If I was in any kind of shape, I would do the Masters races instead of the Cat 4 races. Since Giro is a road race with a decent amount of climbing, it will probably be different than the two crits I did, but it should still be fun. Good luck to you and I'll read your blog after the race.

I did Walkersville this year which was great, but I got caught in a crash on I guess the last lap. That was a really fun race despite the crash. I'll train as well as I can in the coming weeks and we'll see how it goes.

I guess once Chuck/Dave/Russ drop everyone else the race will be fun again.
