By The Power of Greyskull...

I Have The PowerTap!
You can now officially look forward to seeing streams of unintelligible numbers in my posts, all pointing inevitably towards my domination of upcoming events. Actually, I have struggled with getting workout intensities right since I started riding and this should help me get that straight.
Of course it is now just over a week until I power through gallons of pilsener in the old country.

The main advantage to training with power is that it will show you what a sniveling weakling you are. Or in my case, what a pathetic fat bastard I am.

This sounds terrible. In reality, embracing the suck is the first step in overcoming it.

Good luck with the PT, hope you're using Cycling Peaks and Allen&Coggan's Training with Power book - which are the High Mass and the Holy Book, respectively. There's also a google group discussing wattage which a lot of the heavy hitters frequent - merely browsing the FAQs and looking through back emails with searches will answer a lot of your questions, though it really helps to have read Allen & Coggan so you at least know what you are looking for. Good luck, try to remember to tape the computer display over once in a while and just go have fun riding.

Cripes, we're in the same class, and on different teams. Why in the hell am I telling you all this? I must be some kind of moron to clue you in like this. No impulse control, I guess.

BTW, I call my PT "Grabthar's Hammer." If you've seen the film and also understand the centrality of a PT in training, it makes pretty good sense. "By Grabthar's Hammer, I will bridge up." "By Grabthar's Hammer, I will have a personal best..." etc.

Nice! I think that embracing the suck led to this horrible hemorage of fun tickets in the first place, so I can probably check that box. Ditto on the "Training with Power" box. Now they have to come through with the Cycling Peaks for Mac version.

Thanks

I think some folks address Mac / Cycling Peaks issues on the Google wattage group - something about "emulation" mode. Good luck with it.

Actually most people using a MAC either a) buy a really cheap PC laptop (one of my clients does that) or b) uses Parallels on the MAC.

I have no advice on the latter but a quick Google search of the wattage group will turn up a ton of info.
